Ice, slot by slot
Every rink has its own available time — the ice slots you've been allocated. Games and practices are only placed where they fit inside a slot.
Ice is the scarcest thing your league has. SportsPlanr builds the regular season, playoffs and tournaments from the ice you've already been allocated — games, practices, travel and tournament blackouts solved together in minutes, and re-planned when an arena closes.
Describe your league's rules in plain language, or use the forms. A Spot Check tells you straight away if they can't all be met — before you generate anything — and you confirm every change.
SportsPlanr is not a rink-booking system, and it is more than a hockey schedule maker. It takes the ice slots your league has been allocated and turns them into a season that works.
Any one of these is easy on its own. The hard part — the part that eats a volunteer's weekends — is all of them at once: rinks, divisions, practices, travel and blackouts competing for the same time. SportsPlanr solves them as one problem, and tells you before you generate if they can't all be met.
Every rink has its own available time — the ice slots you've been allocated. Games and practices are only placed where they fit inside a slot.
Earlier ice times for younger age groups and later ones for older players, with allowed days and times set per division or team.
Each team's tournament weekends, entered once as blackout dates and respected across the whole season.
Practices compete for the same slots as games, so they are placed together — and a slot can be kept for practices only.
Each division sets the days and times its teams can travel to another town's arena, and away games are placed inside those windows.
Every league and division in one season plan, drawing on the same ice without double-booking.
By default a team plays once a day. Allow two games in a day at the same rink, with the gap you set between them, where a division or team wants it.
Balanced home and away games, opponents spread across the season, even start times and enough days between games.
Every part of your year is built from the same rinks, in the same place, by the same scheduling engine.
Mid-season, things happen that nobody planned for: a winter storm, an arena closed for a broken compressor, an association giving back a slot, a team moving up a division. SportsPlanr re-plans only the games affected, with every rule still applied — no rebuilding the season, no starting over in a spreadsheet.
We first used SportsPlanr for the 2025–26 SMGHL season, managing a schedule for nearly 60 teams across five leagues, and the time savings were incredible.
The platform made a very complex process much easier, particularly when managing team blackouts and ice allocations across dozens of arenas. We also had countless hard and soft rules to account for, from tournament blackouts to prioritizing earlier game times for younger age groups and later times for older teams, and SportsPlanr handled them seamlessly.
Randy and his team were fantastic to work with. They were responsive, helpful and always willing to support us whenever needed.
Hands down, I would use SportsPlanr again.
One scheduling engine, every team sport: the same engine schedules hockey, ringette, soccer, baseball, softball, basketball and volleyball, and has solved complex multi-city league logistics since 2018.

No. SportsPlanr schedules the ice you already have. Enter the ice slots your association has been allocated as available time for each rink, and SportsPlanr builds the league's schedule inside them.
Yes. The league is scheduled as one organization that holds every association's teams and ice. Each association's blackout dates and travel windows become rules, and the whole league is solved together. Sharing ice between two separate SportsPlanr organizations is in development.
Yes. Practices compete for the same ice slots as games, so SportsPlanr places them together, and a slot can be kept for practices only.
Use Reschedule. Say what changed, such as a rink closed for the weekend, and pick the date the change takes effect. Only the games that have to move are re-planned, with every rule still applied, and you review each move before anything is published. Individual games can also be moved by hand.
Only where you allow it. By default a team plays once a day. You can allow doubleheaders for a division, an association or a single team: two games on the same day at the same rink, with the minimum gap you set between them.
Yes. Each division sets the days and times its teams are able to travel, and SportsPlanr places away games inside those windows, alongside every other rule.
Yes. Playoffs use seeded matchups, configurable series formats and a structure that progresses as teams advance. Tournaments get round-robin group play, bracket structure, seeding and game progression. Both are built in the same place, from the same rinks, as your regular season.
Most organizations generate a complete schedule in minutes and re-check a rule change in seconds. Next season is faster still: clone this season's settings and start from there.
Yes, and more. A typical schedule maker or schedule generator pairs teams and assigns times. SportsPlanr generates the full hockey schedule — regular season, playoffs and tournaments — while solving rinks, practices, travel and blackouts together, and tells you before it generates if your rules can't all be met.
Pricing is published per organization, never per player or per game — see plans and estimate your price. More questions are answered in the main FAQ.
